The Problem
Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N) is one of the regional campuses of Rutgers University, a distinguished public land-grant research institution with three campuses in New Jersey. Located in the heart of Newark, RU-N offers a diverse and vibrant academic environment.
The Action
To address declining transfer enrollment and other enrollment and budget-related issues, RU-N embarked on a transformative journey with the help of the NACUBO grant-funded project. RU-N utilized the Budget Process Assessment to gain insights into stakeholder knowledge gaps regarding the budget process. This collaboration disrupted silos and fostered open, honest conversations about cultural changes needed to connect student outcomes to budget decisions.
The Results
“With NACUBO's support, RU-N transformed the budget process into one that places the needs of our students at the forefront of our priorities and aligns our budget requests with a commitment to equitable outcomes for all.”
